Spring has sprung!!!

Spring has sprung with April being the month of rebirth. My daffodils have returned, the garden beds are planted, and the oranges have been removed from my tree. Thanks to members from the Rotary Clubs of Point West, South Sacramento, and Carmichael, who along with students from the West Campus Interact Club, came by and picked 120 pounds of Valencia oranges. The oranges were delivered to the South Sacramento Interfaith Partnership Food Bank. I am forever grateful to everyone who helped.

We are also experiencing the rebirth of a Rotaract Club in our District. At the start of the pandemic, the Merristem Rotaract Club went dormant. This month, the Rotaractors are returning and rebranding their club to the American River Rotaract Club. They are a community-based club that is open to all 18- to 35-year-olds. Thanks to the Rotary Club of Fair Oaks for sponsoring and supporting our returning Rotaract Club.

Saturday, April 15, was our People of Action Workday! And, boy, did our clubs work! There were so many projects happening….a few yet to come….so be watching for another newsletter focused on all that our clubs accomplished on April 15.

If you haven’t registered yet for our ‘Taste of District 5180’ Conference happening Friday, May 5, through Sunday, May 7….you need to!! We have three days of fun planned for all of you!

Some of the highlights on Saturday, May 6, include kicking off our day with our Speech Contest Finals. Our lunch speaker is Mikuni’s Chef Taro Arai and we will have our RYE kids interviews. Then, plan to explore our fun-filled House of Friendship with games and the RV Fellowship Area, and don’t miss the cornhole tournament (register on our District website…all proceeds go to charity).

At Saturday dinner, our keynote speaker, Heidi Kuhn, will give us a peak into her organization, Roots to Peace, which removes landmines from war torn countries and supports the local economy by planting seeds.

And, of course, we will be presenting Club and Individual Awards throughout the sessions.

I can’t wait to see you at our District Conference where we can…‘Serve It Up’ together!
