I am thrilled to share the news that Sidney Smith, of the Rotary Club of Elk Grove, has been named the District Governor Nominee for 2023-24. Sidney will follow Desiree Wilson (2021-22) and Karen Cendro (2022-23).

Sidney is a Southern California transplant who relocated to Northern California in 1983. He spent nearly two decades in the transportation industry with United Parcel Service and was also a radio broadcaster for nearly 20 years. Since 2001, he has been a minister working for a local church.

Sidney and his wife, Debra, have been married for 32 years. They have three children and two grandchildren. Sidney has served on numerous boards and is an advocate for embracing Fictive Kinship; the concept of growth and sustainably through friendships.

In his "spare" time he also coached high school football in Elk Grove and he tries to make time for his other interests, including travel, photography, star gazing and music programming.

A Rotarian since 2002, he is the immediate past president of the Rotary Club of Elk Grove.

"Rotarians transform lives," Sidney said when asked what he loves about Rotary. "Our service to humanity was the driving force behind my joining nearly twenty years ago. Being in a service-minded fellowship requires teamwork and commitment. It also requires a spirit of cooperation and willingness to give of our time, talent and resources. The best part of being in Rotary is the life long friendships that we develop with people from all over the world. Our membership footprint includes every age, shade, size and shape of people! I love the fact that what we have in common is more important than our differences."

Congratulations, Sidney!
